the post(m)other manifesto #WIP

The Post(M)other Manifesto began as a research appendix, a small stream-of-consciousness text created through the beginnings of Angelique’s PhD creative practice. Throughout the course of their research this text, as artwork, has expanded, contracted and expanded again.

Thinking with and through the potentials of divergent forms of care, this text is a call to create neuroqueer forms of care in our future, technologically mediated worlds.

From the appendix it was folded into a digital WebXr platform (Alpha), and assembled with additional textural works created along the path of the research. This iteration is a series of interconnected rooms (wombs) and textual assemblages.

The current iteration (Beta), still a WIP, is a sprawling, hypertext work, an assemblage of text, textiles, digital and textural artworks and playful, cultural references.

The bracketed, delineation of the central concept of this work – (M)other – is a love letter to others who mother; to the queer mothers, the crip mothers and the divergent mothers. To the fathers who mother, the mothers without children, the mothers that birth art and community, the mothers that still need mothering, and those that never, or no longer, wish to be mothers.

This textural assemblage is a call to create utopic, playfully divergent and neuroqueer sci-fi imaginings for and by the (M)others.
